Dec. 18th, 2007

I'm trying to turn over a new leaf, you know, and stop cranking on about work so much. It's not really interesting for anyone (most especially me, because it winds me up again when I write about what wound me up in the first place) and I want to be a more positive person.

But dang, it is too cold for children to be playing outside in shorts and light shirts. I know that is as much the parents' fault as it is the school's (you can thank the Old Woman for her ideas on keeping children healthy by freezing the germs out of them), but looking at their blue knees makes my knees (ensconced in marginally warmer denim) even colder.

This morning was the worst, though. I was on Aruki, so my job involved standing at the gate to greet and collect the children who are driven by/walk to school with their parents. The gate, as I may have mentioned before, is at the topmost part of the driveway, at the top of the hill, and receives very little sunlight in the morning. It also receives every icy blast of wind from all directions. I had to stand there for an hour, with no coat, no gloves, not permitted to stick my hands in my pockets or pull my hands up into my sleeves. For an hour.

Isn't there some human rights convention that is supposed to protect me from this kind of thing? Or does it not apply to me because I am technically not a prisoner?

Anyway, standing at the gate managed to undo any of the good I did by resting and having hot water bottles yesterday, so I wound up in a great deal of pain. Also, I slipped and landed badly on my injured leg a few times, so I am quite crabby. Finally, there was another incident that I'm not going to talk about, because I believe I am feeling somewhat irrational at the moment, and don't need to record forever on the internets just how irrational I can be.

It's more pleasant to think I'm cool-headed and normal all the time ^_^
